"Secrets" Sketch

Picture
This sketch started as just homework. To create it I just used a pencil, pencil sharpener, and an eraser. The purpose of this project was to practice drawing and expressing what you felt or wanted to say at the time. Students had to demonstrate a good drawing that meant something not only to them, but something other people could relate to. With this purpose anything could be drawn, but what would be a theme that really got to people. How could simple materials transmit all that emotion and understanding?

A human act always has its strength and weakness in the process, so that in the end the result ends up worthless. My first weakness was putting all my ideas together and making them work. I could not visualize exactly how I wanted to transmit how I felt at the moment. After that I organized my thoughts and got my first strength act. That act was starting with one idea which was how humans keep secrets to each other. Another strength of mine was that I connected music with what having secrets meant. I chose the song “Secrets” from One Republic. Not only did I connect it with music, but I reflected about it. I draw an eye since looking to someones eyes is the first way to communicate. I draw an eye, and that was also one of my strengths. This drawing reflects humanity, how sometimes we lie to protect each other, how sometimes we keep secrets to save ourselves, but either way those secrets will sometime be known.

My Life's Collage

Picture
In a collage every kind of material can be used. At first all the materials might look like a disaster, but in the end it all fits perfectly. The materials I used were card board, paper, pen, cut outs, markers, plastic, construction paper and tree leafs. The card board is used at the back of the collage. The paper is used for an Egyptian pharaoh and some quotes. The cut outs are from magazines and news paper. Pen was used to write my name and the word life. Markers were used I the back as black decorations. PLatic means a peace sign made out of plastic. Tree leafs were glued in the collage as part of representation of nature. The purpose of this project was to gain cutting and craft skills. It was also for us to explain who we are as an individual, to get to know our weaknesses and strengths as the goal.

A collages definition might be a mess of stuff put together, but to me it just the definition of who a human is as an individual. Making a collage is putting in different shapes, colors, forms, etc who you truly are. The weakness in this project was cutting the materials in the right places. Another weakness of mine was where the cutouts, quotes, etc should be placed. I had to organize everything and then paste it. This process took time so the work took even more time.  The strengths though were the fact that I had many original and unique things in my collage. My biggest strength is that I put a lot of effort to it because it is a way to say how good my life was. It In the end my collage turned out great because it showed how I could embrace life and appreciate everything that has happened to me. Life is like a collage everything in the beginning is messed up, but in the end you just have to find the way to make it right.

A person is identified mostly by his or her looks, but scars, freckles, etc are the true things that mark a face. With that type of things does a person become unique.  To create an original face sculpture the materials used were; masa das, water colors, and black marker. The purpose was to learn how to make a face in a three dimensional to way to learn better proportions.

Through any process there are many difficulties that should never be too long in our way. To me doing this face was pretty hard because I had many problems with the masa das. I had to keep the mass cool all the time while making the face. Another obstacle was that their had to be exact measurements in the proportions. The eyes and the nose were the biggest challenge of all because they had to be of an exact size. Even if there were disadvantages there were also many great things. First one of my skills was painting the face. I used colors that were familiar to the normal characteristics of a human being. Another skill was the fact that I paid attention to human faces and then I used that learning and applied it to my 3D face. To every project there is a new learning skill and to this one it was to apply it as art.
